Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between coaching and consulting?
Coaching tends to be more open-ended and client-led. Coaching provides accountability, resources, and support with whatever you’re currently facing. It can be an ongoing relationship that grows with you. On the other hand, consulting is usually focused on tackling a specific challenge within a set period of time and is consultant-led.
How long does a coaching or consulting engagement typically last?
Coaching engagements typically last for six months to start. Many clients decide to extend beyond their initial six month engagements. Consulting engagements vary based on scope of work, client needs, and availability.
How do I know if I’m ready to work with a coach or consultant?
Clients who have the most successful engagements have the capacity for meetings and work between meetings. They are interested in working on their businesses and themselves, and they are eager for a partner, accountability, and new challenges. They are not looking for easy answers, quick fixes, or someone to do the hard things for them.
What kind of organizations do you work with?
I work with micro and small businesses, all kinds and sizes of nonprofit organizations, and nonprofit workers and leaders at all stages of their careers.
As a multiply-disabled, neurodivergent woman of color, I am particularly adept at supporting entrepreneurs and nonprofit workers with marginalized identities.
Can you help me start a business from scratch?
Yes! Aspiring and early-stage entrepreneurs are some of my favorite clients to work with. I offer a variety of different options and price points for clients who are working toward launching their businesses.
Do you offer support with marketing and sales strategy?
I provide advice and consultation to clients who can’t afford to work with a marketing agency and make referrals to qualified firms for clients who can. I also help clients evaluate service providers and determine what kind of support they need.
Sales strategy is part of business strategy, so I do work with clients on sales strategy, but I do not create marketing deliverables or execute strategies.
Do you work with clients in person?
I do most of my work remotely from my home office in Pittsburgh, PA. I occasionally work in person with clients in Pittsburgh, but I am not available to travel to clients who are located farther away.
What if I’m not sure what kind of support I need?
Let’s talk! I often say that consultants who help clients with only what they think they need help with are doing a disservice. One of the benefits of working with a consultant is that we know what you don’t and can help you identify what you really need.
